Piero Ferrari, the son of the late Ferrari founder Enzo, has said his father would have been in favour of the team’s decision to impose team orders in Austria on Sunday.
Amid the outcry from the media and public over the issue, some have said Mr Ferrari would have been against such a move.
‘There are those who said that Enzo Ferrari would be spinning in his grave,’ Piero said.
‘I think I knew him quite well and I can say to those people that last Sunday afternoon I thought of my father looking down with a smile, while seeing his two cars dominate the Grand Prix and two drivers obeying team orders.’
Mr Ferrari enforced team orders of his own when he actively ran the Gestione Sportiva and methods to draw the maximum from results in the interest of winning titles have been in place since the Prancing Horse started competing in the Championship in 1950.
