Verstappen receives compensation
Posted 25 May 2002

Jos Verstappen has reportedly received a settlement from Arrows following the contractual breach earlier this year.

The Dutchman was axed from the outfit during the preseason in favour of German Heinz-Harald Frentzen even though he had already signed a contract to race in 2002.

Tom Walkinshaw and officials preferred Frentzen to Verstappen but had to wait until the collapse of the Prost team before they could sign the three-time winner. Verstappen was informed that his services would “not be required” and it was then that he and manager Huub Rothengatter with their lawyers, took legal action.

The compensation amounted to an estimated $2 million, the sum Verstappen was to be paid this for his services this year.
