Verstappen not compensated
Posted 26 May 2002

Jos Verstappen did not win compensation from Arrows over contract breach after all.

It was reported this week that the Dutchman had won his case against the team after it dumped him before the season and was rewarded $2 million in compensation. But the team set the record straight this weekend with the issuing of a clarification statement.

‘Arrows has not had any claim made against it by Verstappen in respect to Arrows’ termination of Verstappen’s driving contract,’ the release read.

‘Verstappen did bring a claim against Arrows for monies he believed were owed from 2001, which the court rejected. In those proceedings, the court was also satisfied that Arrows had its own valid damages claim against Verstappen for breach of contract.’

The team dumped Verstappen during the preseason in favour of German three-time winner Heinz-Harald Frentzen.
